ROY LEE SPINKS
May 26, 1921 - October 22, 2009
Roy Lee Spinks aka "The Hillbilly Poet"
passed from this life on October 22, 2009 following a
long illness.
Roy was born at Anthony, WV on May
26, 1921 and was preceded in death by his parents William R. and
Dorothy Clemons Spinks, two brothers; Paul who died in infancy and Billy, a
sister Pearl Spinks Flanagan.
He is survived by his "adopted" family: Chuck, Twila and Mary Jane
Hazard of Asbury; several nephews, nieces and cousins, all loved by Roy who
had no children of his own.
He is also survived by local friends as well as
Internet and ham radio friend who
were an important part of his life.
Roy, an amateur poet and writer, spent several years at Highland
Baptist and Liberty Baptist churches teaching and serving in the music
ministries. More recently, he attended Emmanuel Methodist Church in Asbury.
